EPIPHANY BONFIRES
A tradition we like to maintain!
Bonfires (Pignarui) are a tradition that dates back to the Celtic times and which still survives nowadays as a ritual to be held on Epiphany’s eve. The flames still represent the hope and the strength of burning old things and the direction of the sparks indicates whether the new year is going to be good or bad. This year the smoke went southwards, it will be a hard 2012, we will need to roll up our sleeves to make flour. This is the response of ''Pignarul Grant'' of Tarcento, the reference bonfire for Friuli. The Venerando (Venerable) who is in charged of interpreting the smoke direction added “Do not forget that the Pignarul prediction concerns only farming”.
