Terroir
The relationship between man and the land which has developed over the years has lead to the creation of the concept of “terroir” , a term that defines the vineyard in all its morphological, climatic, social, cultural and human aspects.
Knowledge of, and respect for, the environment has always allowed us to infuse more and more of the character of the terroir into our wines.
A modern winery cannot set technology aside, but in the vineyard much of the work is done according to tradition rather than commercial logic. Vineyard management operations like pruning, shoot positioning, leaf and bunch thinning and harvesting are carried out manually to guarantee product quality. Moreover, we have decided not to use weed killers, to reduce the use of agrochemical sprays and to maintain grass cover in the vineyard. Experience has taught us that if we stimulate the soil and the vines to react to adversities in a natural and spontaneous way, they will respond in harmony and give their best, channeling their energies into the production of fruit rather than excessive vegetation.
Lis Neris has always had a strong relationship with the vineyard and the surrounding countryside. We live in a natural environment and we do intend ever to forget it.
